ECACC Services:
In addition to its diverse inventory of over 1500 separate cell lines including human, mouse and insect, ECACC offers an array of services described below.
Quality Control Testing of Cell Cultures:
- Mycoplasma detection by three methods: PCR, Hoechst DNA stain and microbiological culture.
- Adventitious agent testing in vitro using three susceptible cell lines
- Testing for Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus (BVDV) by RT–PCR
- Mycoplasma eradication service
Cell Line Authentication:
- Species verification by isoenzyme analysis
- Multi–locus DNA fingerprinting for comparative identification of the most common cell lines
- Multiplex PCR for human cell lines that produce a digital "fingerprint" unique for that cell line. ECACC can compare your cell line to its extensive archived profiles to confirm identity.
Cell Banking:
- Quarantine cell banking
ECACC's quarantine facility will provide you with a seed stock of frozen ampoules. The stock will be tested for mycoplasma, bacteria and fungi, enabling you to receive the new cell line in your own laboratory with confidence.
- High Specification Master Cell Banking
ECACC has a dedicated facility to produce 100–200 ampoule master banks under conditions consistent with the requirements of cGMP. These banks are supplied with a full manufacturing batch record that includes full materials traceability, passage history, environmental monitoring and a Certificate of Analysis.

Custom and OEM Manufacturing:
Sigma–Aldrich manufactures custom and proprietary liquid and powder formulations to large scale under cGMP.
- Single, sterile–filtered liquid lots up to 10,000 L
- Sterile–filtered liquids may be packaged in 50 ml to 500 L containers (bottles, carboys, and bags).
- Blended powder lots up to 4,000 kg.
- Blended powders may be custom packaged to meet your needs.
